Sefton Park Palm House raises vital funds during Henry Yates Thompson dinner
Sefton Park Palm House has played host to its second fundraising dinner aptly named The Henry Yates Thompson Dinner, after its benefactor.
Nearly £9,000 was raised during the evening which saw 200 supporters in attendance. All profits will go directly back into the Trust to help keep the Grade II* listed glasshouse flourishing.
Kate Martinez, from the Palm House team, said:
“We can’t thank our supporters enough for the fantastic turnout during this second fundraiser. It is because of their continuous support and resilient community spirit that our beautiful crown jewel of Sefton Park can be preserved for many more years to come. With our regular donations we will be able to match Henry Yates Thompson’s £10,000 by the end of this year.
“The impressive funds that have been raised will not only contribute to the general maintenance of the venue, they will also ensure that our eclectic programme of events continues to expand.”
Hosted by long-time friend of the Palm House and BBC Radio Merseyside presenter Roger Phillips, The Henry Yates Thompson Dinner consisted of a three-course meal with wine, fizz, a quiz, dancing and fireworks. To support the venue’s fundraising efforts complimentary services were provided by Chapman Holmes, Gemma Roberts Photography, LWC Drinks UK Fireworks, Ultra Lighting, David Beckham Doyle Florist, Childwall Table and Chair Hire and Too Much Information.
There were fifteen raffle prizes kindly donated by several restaurants, individual artists and companies, which added to the fun and helped raise funds.
“We recently marked our fifteenth anniversary since our community led grand restoration and these dedicated and new supporters remain the backbone of the Palm House. It is because of the fundraising efforts and the generosity of our board, campaigners, volunteers and visitors that we are able to keep our venue and our plant collection thriving.”
