An annual Christmas charity appeal that helps Liverpool city region’s homeless and vulnerable people is once again asking for donations of clothes, toiletries, books and toys.

Shoebox Full of Love was set up in 2014 by Huyton-born Vorny Redmond and over the last three years the organisation has collected and distributed items to more than 15,000 vulnerable people and children of all ages.

Vorny’s campaign now has more than 40 locations across Liverpool, Wirral, St Helens, Widnes and West Lancashire where gifts can be donated.

As well as asking people for donations she is also asking for businesses to allow their premises to be used as temporary drop-off points.

“Three years ago, I was struck by the obvious divide between different classes of people in and around our city,” said Vorny.

“While this is a year-round situation I was heartbroken by the thought of so many people who faced the prospect of experiencing Christmas Day alone and wanted to give them something to smile about.”

As well as donations, Vorny and her team are also looking for volunteers to help with collecting gifts and to distribute to various recipients including women’s refuges, homeless organisations etc.

She added: “Donations can be made at any of the participating business from now until December 4. We’re also looking for volunteers who can help by collecting gifts and delivering to Rent-A-Space in Bootle – which has kindly given us space free of charge – where they will be checked and sorted before distributing them throughout the city and beyond.”

“Over the last four years, I’ve seen first-hand the reactions of the recipients which has deepened my passion and love for people within our community, each and every donator and volunteer,” said Vorny.

Individual items can be donated or multiple gifts in a wrapped shoebox or gift bag are also welcome. All packaging must be left unsealed, so the volunteers can check donations before distributing them.
