Organisers of the year’s Merseyside Independent Business Awards have published the shortlist – and revealed there were a record number of entries.

Law firm Morecrofts, which is behind the awards, says there were entries from 52 businesses and organisations across 13 different categories.

Leading Liverpool accountancy firm BWM is shortlisted in two categories. The firm is up for the Business & Professional Services Company of the Year and its managing partner, Peter Taaffe, is a nominee for Business Person of the Year.

Every corner of the Liverpool City Region, from Southport and St Helens to Heswall and Knowsley, is represented on the shortlist for the awards which are sponsored by the Liverpool BID Company.

Zut, Jot and Maray join Kitsune, Igoo and Mowgli among the other eye-catching nominees on the list, alongside more recognisable names such as Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, LEAF Tea Shop and Sefton Park Palm House.

Alison Lobb, managing partner of Morecrofts Solicitors, said: “The MIB Awards continue to go from strength to strength, demonstrating that there is a real appetite to shout even louder about the achievements of our independent business sector.

“Every year, we are amazed by the breadth of entrepreneurial talent in the region and their relentless pursuit of improvement and success. There is so much to be proud of in our city region and the MIB Awards encapsulates that perfectly.”

The winners of each category will be announced at a ceremony at the Rum Warehouse, Titanic Hotel in Liverpool on Thursday, October 12.
