Sir Ken Dodd’s funeral to be held at Liverpool Cathedral

Sir Ken, considered to be one of Britain’s finest-ever comedians, died at the home in Knotty Ash he had lived in all his life. He married his partner of 40 years, Anne Jones, just days before his death

Liverpool Cathedral will host the funeral of Liverpool comic Sir Ken Dodd, who died aged 90 earlier this week.

Sir Ken, considered to be one of Britain’s finest-ever comedians, died at the home in Knotty Ash he had lived in all his life. He married his partner of 40 years, Anne Jones, just days before his death.

The much-loved entertainer, famous for his marathon shows, was a frequent visitor to Liverpool Cathedral and it is there his life will be celebrated at 1pm on Wednesday, March 28.

It its statement on Thursday the cathedral said the service would be “a fitting celebration of Ken’s life as we invite family, friends and fans to join us to pay tribute to him”.

Full details about the funeral arrangements and how the city can pay their respects to Sir Ken will be released early next week.

Canon Myles Davies, Acting Dean, said: “Sir Ken was a well-known presence in our cathedral regularly attending worship with us. His character and humour affected us all and we are honoured to be able to help family and friends say their farewells.”

The service will be followed by a private internment.
