Sir Ranulph Fiennes inspires audience as guest speaker at Liverpool Town Hall
Sir Ranulph Fiennes, the famous explorer commanded the attention of an audience of more than 200 guests who attended Rathbones-LCVS United Way charity symposium at Liverpool Town Hall.
Sir Ranulph has led countless expeditions with his colleagues and broke scores of records, raising more than £16m for charities in the process and conducting important scientific experiments. Overall his experience and dedication made Sir Ranulph the perfect candidate to address the theme of the seminar-Leadership- pushing the boundaries.
The audience were equal parts inspired and entertained as Sir Ranulph displayed photos of his challenging polar expedition, explore Earth’s last frontiers. The extreme conditions he faced had clearly done little to affect his morale, as he recounted tales with a dead-pan candour that provoked laughter from the attentive crowd.
He identified key leadership skills. One, he said, is to select people with the right motivation as skills can be taught, but commitment cannot. He said that he had often come close to giving up, but had been driven on by a desire not to disappoint his father, who was killed in the Second World War shortly before he was born.
