Former world snooker champion John Parrott will swap his cue for a set of golf clubs next month when he hosts a charity golf tournament in Liverpool.

The Merseyside-born star will host the Woodlands Hospice “John Parrott Golf Classic” taking place at West Derby Golf Club on Friday, June 23, and he is appealing for teams of local golfers to take part.

It is one of a number of flagship fundraising events organised this year by the hospice, which is based in the grounds of Aintree Hospital.

Woodlands is looking for teams of four to take part at a cost of £249 per team.

Included in the price are welcome refreshments including a bacon butty, round of golf, nearest the pin and straightest drive competitions, entertainment followed by a two-course presentation dinner with raffles and possibly an auction on the night.

John, who is a patron of the hospice, said: “This is going to be a fantastic day at a great location.

“Not only will those taking part have a brilliant time but they will be raising vital funds for Woodlands which provides amazing care for people.

“Events such as this help Woodlands to provide a wide range of services free of charge to the community.  It is a truly local charity.”

Woodlands provides specialist palliative care for people with cancer and other life limiting illnesses, plus a range of support treatments and services for patients and their families.

It needs to raise the equivalent of £2,740 per day to keep its operation going.

To take part in the golf tournament call Pauline Cox at Woodlands on 0151 529 2640 or email pauline.cox@aintree.nhs.uk
