Southport market serves 23,000 pizzas in one year

23,000 pizzas, almost half a million pints of beer and more than 30,000 cakes have been sold at Southport Market in the past year. Tony McDonough reports

Southport Market has served 23,000 pizzas over the past 12 months

 

Southport Market is celebrating its third birthday and the owner Sefton Council has released some interesting stats on how much has been sold over the past 12 months.

This Friday (July 19) the market is celebrating in style with entertainment and a DJ to mark the special occasion plus a bespoke cake made by the market’s very own Cake Corner team. It was opened at a cost of £1.2m in 2021.

In the last year traders have cooked up a whopping 13,000 pasta dishes, 19,000 gyros, 7,000 Mexican burritos and 33,000 cakes. Others include:

  • Pints of beer sales: 431,000
  • Hectors Mexicana: 7,200 Burritos
  • 600 Degrees Pizza: 23,000 pizzas
  • Down & Oot: 7,465 poutine dishes
  • Pitamu: 19,287 Gyros
  • Cake Corner: 33,000 cakes
  • Italian Street Food: 13,200 pasta dishes
  • Roll & Bowl: 8,500 noodle dishes

The market also boasts a butchers and an events extravaganza space for parties and live entertainment, as well as hosting pop up stalls and much more.

Cllr Paulette Lappin, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills, said: “I am quickly running out of superlatives for how good Southport Market is.

“When we first announced the transformation of the market to a food and drink offer from its traditional roots there were of course going to be a small number of people who cast doubt on its success.

“I think we can safely put those doubts to bed now as we get ready to cut Cake Corner’s delicious birthday cake for our third year.

“My thanks must go to our traders and market staff first and foremost. They work very hard to keep our thousands of visitors well fed, watered and entertained five days a week.”
