Firms in the Liverpool city region are being invited to a North West event where they can learn how to grab a slice of the UK’s £15bn ‘space economy.

The European Space Agency (ESA) has helped a wide range of companies across a broad range of sectors, from retail to insurance, from logistics to manufacturing, to use GPS data, satellite communications, and imagery of Earth from Space to improve processes, gain a competitive edge, and expand their markets.

Three quarters of the UK’s space economy is generated by non-space companies. In the coming decade, the global industry is projected to surpass $(US)1 trillion, with the UK on track to increase its market share to 10%.

As part of the agency’s growth strategy to develop this sector further, this free, one day event will help dispel the myths of space and give an insight on the types of businesses who harness the data which space is now generating.

The free event, Your Business Powered By Space, will be held at Manchester Airport’s Runway Visitors Centre on Thursday, June 13, and will feature a range of speakers from companies already benefiting from the space sector.

Alan Cross, the ESA business applications regional ambassador (North West England & North Wales) said: “This event is designed for companies across the region who may not consider themselves to be in the space sector but have the potential to use the assets of space, to solve possible problems they may have, to their commercial advantage.”
