Starship Developments secures £4.6m to complete luxury apartments complex in Wirral overlooking the Dee Estuary. Tony McDonough reports
Wirral-based Starship Developments has secured £4.6m in new financing that will allow it to complete a luxury apartments complex.
Called Hilbre Sands, the scheme will comprise eight two-bedroom apartments in the four-storey former M&Co building in West Kirby. Two penthouse apartments measured 1,111 sq ft and 1,151 sq ft. It will offer views across the Dee Estuary.
Although Birkenhead-based Starship specialises in factory-built modular homes, the project is being created using a mixture of steel frame and traditional methods.
Funding to refinance the almost-finished scheme has come from Sancus Lending. Starship was advised on the funding by the property finance team at Cowgills.
Starship chief executive Dave Dargan said: “This has been a significant milestone for the business. Working alongside Cowgills and Sancus has enabled us to focus on delivering these high quality coastal homes.
“We believe they set a new standard for apartment living in Wirral. The support we’ve had has been crucial in ensuring the development meets both our vision and the high expectations of future residents.”
Incorporating open-plan living design and private outdoor spaces, each apartment includes a wraparound terrace, offering residents views across the Dee Estuary, Hilbre Island and Sandlea Park. These floor plans are accentuated by floor-to-ceiling windows.
Located on the edge of the Marine Lake, Hilbre Sands also features frameless glazed balconies wrap around the terraces, with large slim aluminium windows finished in a muted bronze tone.

Starship was formed following the acquisition and merger of several existing property development and construction businesses. It specialises in factory-built homes using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and is based in Birkenhead docklands.
