Top makeup artist Carrie Jones has worked with celebrities such as Gok Wan, Olly Murs and Pink and now opened her own “cruelty-fee” studio in Liverpool.
Unpretty Makeup has opened its doors in Wavertree and Ms Jones says she and her team will “provide makeup services of a standard that are usually only available to the stars”.
She has also pledged to provide industry training to the next generation of aspiring makeup artists in Merseyside.
The studio will also feature brands not seen in Liverpool before as part of its UnprettyX series which will see independent brands taking up “pop up” space in the studio.
Ms Jones has worked in the makeup industry for more than 10 years and has seen her work published in high-end publications such as Vogue, Tatler, Cosmopolitan and ELLE.
She says Liverpool won her heart when she initially visited here in 2010 with Gok Wan and his clothes roadshow, adding it has proved to be the perfect place for her business due to the thriving beauty industry and growing local economy.
“I couldn’t think of anywhere I would rather set up. After many years in London, I am very pleased to now call Liverpool home,” said Ms Jones. “The city is really unique and I can’t wait to work with some of the amazing people here.”
Her business ethos is all about enhancing natural beauty and promoting individuality while also keeping it vegan and cruelty free. She wants to help people to “find their own version of pretty”.
During the past two years, Ms Jones has trained a number of students and all of them are now working within the industry. She added: “I am very proud to see my students working in the industry and some of them have done TV commercials and fashion shoots.”
