Affordable homes provider Torus has delivered 13 new homes in Birkenhead.
In a partnership with Wirral Council’s Strategic Housing Investment team, Torus has completed the homes on the former site of Wirral Council’s Riverside Day Centre in Duke Street in the town.
All the houses are available for affordable rent. This is a rent which is set at no higher than 80% of the local market rate. This development marks Torus’s latest investment in the area, with £1.5m ringfenced to complete the Duke Street scheme.

Chris Bowen, managing director of Torus Development, said: “The need for affordable housing isn’t fading. In fact, with rising inflation rates and the cost of living increasing, providing communities with homes that are affordable is a necessity for all developers and local authorities.
“I’m delighted to see Riverside completed and to mark the beginning of a longstanding partnership with Wirral Council, who, like Torus, are committed to meeting the needs of people living in Birkenhead through providing high quality, affordable homes.”
Lisa Newman, Wirral Council’s head of housing services, added: “This is a great example of Wirral Council working with housing providers such as Torus in bringing unused brownfield land into use for much needed affordable housing.
“The development aligns with the council’s Birkenhead town centre plans and is creating sustainable neighbourhoods for the future.”
