City centre Italian restaurant Trattoria 51 is launching gluten free variations of 95% of its dishes.

Trattoria 51, located on Old Hall Street, has introduced a wider assortment of coeliac choices following increased customer demand for specialist options.

Having built on 13 years of food intolerance research, restaurateur Attilio Sergi has adopted a unique approach to providing ‘flavoursome favourites’ that meet coeliac needs. He said:

“Gone are the days when gluten free food has to taste bland and quite frankly boring. Since opening our first establishment in Southport, we have always been keen on devising dishes that everyone can enjoy – including those with food intolerances.

“With this in mind, Trattoria 51 is the first restaurant to partner with DS Gluten Free to launch a range GF pizzas and meals. As more people are adopting a coeliac diet for both health reasons and personal preference, our ever expanding GF food offerings are growing at such a rapid pace.

“Unlike various other restaurants and supermarkets, our gluten free dishes don’t cost any more than our regular dishes, and as most of our meals can be created with gluten free ingredients – there is no need for a separate menu.”

According to Coeliac UK, the disease affects 1 in 100 people in the UK, and approximately only 24% of those suffering from the conduction are clinically diagnosed.

Attilio added:

“Last year the Food Information Regulations introduced a new rule, which states that all restaurants must provide allergen information either in written format or orally on the customers’ request.

“To support the guidelines, our fully trained staff members are able to provide coeliac customers with accurate food information to safeguard their health and ensure that their dining experience is stress-free and enjoyable.
