TV soap stars hit Royal Court stage this week
Soap stars Vicky Entwistle and Sarah White will take to the stage of Liverpool’s Royal Court later this week as The Netherley Hillbillies opens for a month-long run
Liverpool’s Royal Court theatre will this week see the opening of a new production featuring two familiar TV faces.
Vicky Entwistle, best known for playing Janice Battersby in Coronation Street, and Sarah White, who starred as Bev Dixon in Brookside, are members of the cast of The Netherley Hillbillies which opens on Friday (May 24) and runs until June 22.
Other actors in the cast include Reiss Barber, Paul Duckworth, Charlie De ‘Ath, Lynn Francis and Jasmine Herrington.
Written by Barbara Phillips and directed by Deborah Yhip, The Netherley Hillbillies tells the story of Jed, Lisa, Elly May and mother-in-law Renie who aren’t used to being rich.
They were always rich in spirit and all that but now they’re proper rich. Like, big house in Formby rich…
Come listen to a story ’bout a man name Jed,
Found it really hard to keep a roof over his head
Then one day he escaped from being poor
When the lottery machine, spat out six of his balls
Jed has got the rags to riches gang together and loaded up the van, it’s time to get out of Netherley and into something more befitting of a family with serious wedge.
Special report: Resilience in tough times for Liverpool theatres
It’s goodbye to a brick outhouse and hello to a beautifully appointed gatehouse. The only problem is that the riches to rags neighbours aren’t so keen…
Barbara Phillips has struck oil with a brilliant new comedy about what happens when life-changing money lands in your lap. The grass might be greener but the gardener is terribly expensive.
