TV presenter and ‘professional upcycler’ Max McMurdo is to share his design talents with visitors at this year’s Southport Flower Show.

Currently starring in ‘How to Live Mortgage Free with Sarah Beeny’ on Channel 4, Max will park up in his mobile workshop inside a converted double decker bus to show guests how they can turn household junk into quirky home treasures.

The designer found success ten years ago when he convinced investors on Dragon’s Den to back his business making high end furniture out of scrap items.
His creations have included chairs made from shopping trolleys, sofas that were once old metal bathtubs and tables crafted from abandoned washing machine drums.
Max also inspired TV audiences by turning a shipping container into a luxury floating home on George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces and as a design expert on Kirstie’s Fill Your House for Free.
Max has been described as a ‘furniture hacker’, ‘eco-designer’ and ‘upcycler’ as well as being an entrepreneur, businessman and broadcaster.
He has also designed garden furniture made from scrap and won a Gold Award at Chelsea Flower Show last year for his metalwork designs for Kate Gould Gardens.
Max will be at Southport Flower Show on August 18 & 19.
He said: “I’m so intrigued by the theme of this year’s Southport Flower Show and can’t wait to meet visitors and help them turn unwanted items into something amazing.”
Southport is the UK’s largest independent flower show and has been a fixture in the summer calendar for more than 80 years.
As well as a line-up of famous names and another packed programme, the theme for this year’s show is the Curious Garden with organisers aiming to showcase the sense of wonder and discovery that inspires all gardeners as they unravel the mysteries of the natural world.
