A Liverpool artist is looking for female captains of industry to sign up to an art project that aims to highlight issues faced by vulnerable women in the city.

Big Love Sista has launched a “Stand up for Sistahood” campaign, with the aim of gathering 100 women leaders of Liverpool to paint self-portraits.

The artwork produced will be showcased by the celebrated artist Clare Campbell at The Southbank Centre in London, in March 2015. Chief Executive Jude Kelly will also be adding her portrait and asking 100 leaders in London to paint theirs.

Clare has already gained the signatures of 65 women across the city, including Liverpool’s Lord Mayor Erica Kemp, to capture their ‘inner Goddess’ on canvas and is looking for high-flying females from local businesses to step up to the palette.

The aim of the NHS funded project has a serious side to highlight the issues faced by 100 vulnerable women in Liverpool recovering from domestic violence, breast cancer, older women in care homes and young girls in care and others.

Clare said:

“We want to lead the way from Liverpool and we want YOU to paint your portrait. Your painting will become part of a touring International Exhibition joining 900 other women’s paintings.

“We are looking for participating women to make a donation towards a woman from a vulnerable group taking part, in order to cover the cost of their paint and canvas.

“All women deserve to shine and we know that our communities are bursting with talented, resourceful women who can help support each other and inspire.

“By joining this project you pledge to ‘stand up in sistahood’ with these women and through your artwork share your message of inspiration and hope. You don’t have to have any artistic talent and most women are terrified to paint – we can help with that!’’

The critically acclaimed project – which will require a commitment of one hour per week – promises ‘to be packed with inspiration’, offering networking, connections, beautiful art, powerful workshops, great PR opportunities and the chance to celebrate the women of Liverpool internationally.
