Wirral Ark, which provides a safe place for homeless people to stay while offering the support needed to turn their lives around, has organised the event which will take place in Birkenhead Park this Saturday, April 20.

Runners will take on the 5k route around the park and must then finish a slice of pizza to at the 2.5km and 5km points of the run. It is open to families with children, and an adult runner must accompany under-16s. Each finisher will receive a Wirral Ark Pizza Run t-shirt and medal.

There is still time to enter the event with registration still open until Thursday, April 18 and you can do so by clicking here. Participants are asked to raise a minimum of £25 each in sponsorship, which will help Wirral Ark continue their work with the homeless in Merseyside.

Dogs are welcome to take part and must be registered in advance.  There are medals for canine finishers too that can be engraved afterwards.

Jakey Jay’s, of Oxton Road, Birkenhead, are sponsoring the event by providing pizzas for all runners free of charge. Owner Bernadette Stafford-Withers, said: “We’re a very community focused company and always happy to support charities whenever we’re able to.

“Homelessness is on the rise in Wirral and we were really keen to do whatever we could to help raise as much as possible for Wirral Ark.”

Pauline Cox, fundraiser at Wirral Ark, explains “We wanted an event that the whole family could enjoy together.  The route is on pathways so accessible for wheelchairs and buggies, it’s not timed so people can take as long as they need to finish.”

Check in begins from 11.30am with the run expected to start at 12.30pm. The Mayor and Mayoress of Wirral will be awarding medals to the top three finishers with a presentation ceremony at 1.20pm.
