Young entrepreneurs set to ‘take over’ Bootle venue
Liverpool city region canal-side venue Salt and Tar will be taken over by young entrepreneurs on one day in May when the Teenage Market returns. Tony McDonough reports

Young entrepreneurs aged 10 to 25 will be able to run their own market stalls in Bootle for one day in May.
From Friday, May 23, to Bank Holiday Monday, May 26, the canal-side venue Salt and Tar music venue at Bootle Strand will host the Fringe Festival. This offers a programme of comedy, live music, family activities, beer tasting, wellness workshops and more.
On the Monday, from 12pm to 4pm, the indoor entertainment tent will be transformed into the Teenage Market from 12pm to 4pm. This free event offers an opportunity for young people aged 10-25 to run their own market stalls.
They will be able to sell creative goods or test out new business ideas in a supportive, real-world setting. From handmade crafts and homeware to jewellery, art, clothing and more, visitors can expect a unique shopping experience that celebrates young talent.
There will also be a stage open to young performers. Whether you are in a band, a solo singer, dancer, or comedian, this is your chance to showcase your skills in front of a lively local audience.
Cllr Paulette Lappin, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Economy and Skills, said: “The Teenage Market is a brilliant event to empower and celebrate our young people, whether they are traders, creators, or performers.
“Events such as this help develop vital skills, spark new ideas, and build confidence in a real-world setting.
“Salt and Tar has quickly become a hub for creativity, culture and community and it’s also a key part of our wider vision for Bootle’s regeneration.
“By investing in spaces that support young people and bring people together, we’re not just creating great events, we’re laying the foundations for a more vibrant, inclusive and resilient town centre.”
