Liverpool event shines a spotlight on digital accessibility

An event being held in Liverpool this week will explore how websites and other digital technology can be more accessible to visually impaired or disabled people.

Businesses attending the event, hosted by Studio Mashbo and Creative Kitchen, will hear how they can make their online tools more user-friendly for those with poor eyesight or colour blindness, as well as sufferers of cognitive, speech or neurological disabilities.

The event at the Bruntwood-owned Cotton Exchange on Bixteth Street will also explore the potential costs to businesses who fail to consider disabilities when managing their websites, products and services.

Gavin Sherratt, director at Studio Mashbo, said:

“We don’t hear much about web accessibility – it’s not considered as cool as talking design or as much fun as playing with the latest app – but when we consider 15% of the world’s population has some form of disability, it’s clear that it warrants much more attention.

“The potential of modern web technology means that accessibility is in danger of being overlooked in favour of visual bells and whistles. But if we ignore accessibility now, we’ll soon be experiencing the consequences ourselves.”
