Housing association Magenta Living starts work on 30 homes for social rent at Wirral site in £7m scheme. Tony McDonough reports

Magenta Living has broken ground on a new social housing development in Oxton Village in Wirral.
Work on The Parchments will see the construction of 30 new homes. They will comprise 18 two-bedroom and 12 one-bedroom apartments. The build will respect the local conservation area with materials and design which are sensitive to the site’s history.
Located on the site of a former school, the name The Parchments reflects the history of reading and writing materials used in education at the old school.
Paul McGrady, Magenta Living’s chief financial Officer, said: “We are very proud to be able to move forward now with this development, respecting the unique character of Oxton Village, and giving more people a chance to join this special corner of Wirral.
“We are determined to provide more quality, much-needed, housing; strengthening our communities and giving the people who live here more opportunities.”
This development has been made possible by financial support from Homes England, worth £3.57m, as part of their plans to make more affordable and social housing available.
A social rent is typically between 50% and 60% of the local market rent. Homes for rent classed as affordable are usually around 80% of the local market rate.

Building firm The Casey Group is undertaking the work. Operations director James Reeveley added: “This development will provide much-needed, high-quality homes, giving more local people the opportunity to live and thrive in Oxton.
“We are proud to be helping improve lives through the delivery of quality homes and creating a lasting positive impact for residents and the wider community.”
The Parchments will be completed in January 2028, and is part of Magenta Living’s commitment to build 1,300 new homes in Wirral by 2030.
