A City of Liverpool College tutor has been appointed part of the team squad for England Volleyball.

Simon O’Brien has been appointed lead medical officer for the team and is working with the under 19’s squad, working to prepare them for future Olympic contests.

Simon has recently returned from Denmark with the team where they competed in the Northern European Volleyball Championship and secured a bronze medal.

The tournament took place in Ikast, Denmark on 15th October 2015 and welcomed teams from across Northern Europe. The event showcased the future talent of the sport and highlighted key players that could one day represent their country during the Olympics.

The sports tutor from the City of Liverpool College was the lead sports therapist for the team, coordinating with the managers and coaches to ensure England’s success at the games. He believes his experience at the championship will be a huge advantage to his students as he can demonstrate real hands on experience in the field.

The England team played competitors from across Europe including Sweden, Denmark and Iceland, leading to the best result England has achieved within a European Championship.

Simon O’Brien, sports tutor said:

“The whole experience has been fantastic and the connections I have made will benefit my students at the college greatly. We have made excellent steps in securing a permanent relationship with the team that will give our sports therapy students the chance to gain some vital hands on experience working with England Volleyball and taking part in lessons at the national training base in Kettering.”
