Former Reece’s Ballroom in Liverpool’s Parker Street is part of Beatles folklore and is being converted into 91 studio and one-bedroom apartments. Tony McDonough reports.

In 1962 it staged the reception for John Lennon’s marriage to his first wife Cynthia – now a building in Liverpool city centre will soon offer luxury living.

Developer Caro Developments says it has sold all of the 91 studio and one-bedroom apartments at the famous Reece’s Ballroom in Parker Street off-plan.

Work started on site in October by Nobles Construction to convert the upper floors and rooftop into stylish city centre apartments, which have been designed by architects Falconer Chester Hall.

The work is now well underway with the contractors currently strengthening steelwork in preparation for extending the building from five to seven floors.

The form ballroom has long since closed and the ground floor is now home to national retail chain Superdrug.

Lee Darwen, operations director of Caro Developments, said: “Just 12 months from our acquisition of the site we are thrilled to announce that the response to the Parker Street Residences has been huge with all units now sold.

“It’s an exciting time for Liverpool’s Clayton Square area which has seen a lot of investment and improvements in the past year.

“The apartments are a great addition to the ongoing investment in the area.

“Overseas interest has been key to the overwhelming success of Parker Street, with lots of interest coming from both Europe and further afield.

“In the wake of Brexit, it is more than encouraging to see that there is still a lot of faith and interest in Liverpool’s residential offering.”
