Work on the £200m transformation of Huyton town centre will move onto the next stage in September with demolitions paving the way for a new council headquarters, homes, a hotel and community facilities. Tony McDonough reports
Demolition work will begin in Huyton town centre in September as work on a £200m regeneration project moves onto the next stage.
In November 2025, Knowsley Council’s development partner, Genr8 Kajima submitted a hybrid planning application (one that seeks both full and outline permission for different elements) for a huge scheme to transform the town centre.
This application seeks full planning consent to build a new 91,000 sq ft headquarters for Knowsley Council and a 130-bed hotel. It also seeks outline planning for 420 new homes, a community hub and a sustainable travel hub.
In early July LBN revealed work was to start converting the former B&M store in Cavendish Walk into the new community facility in Huyton Village Centre in a £19.1m project that will include the relocation of Huyton Library.
Now the council says work will start on its own campus with the demolition of two outdated buildings – the Computer Centre and Huyton Annexe. Hoardings will be installed around these sites next month with demolition works expected to start in September and be completed in the autumn.
Plans also include the delivery of a sustainable travel hub next year on the site of the current multi-storey car park on Lathom Road which will deliver parking facilities, electric charging points and dedicated disabled bays.
Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “It’s great that progress is being made on our ambitious plans which will deliver modern facilities and attract more residents and visitors into the village centre, as well as creating local jobs for local people.”
