Liverpool Chess Club will be hosting the internationally renowned English Rapidplay Championship at the Cunard Building on Saturday and Sunday, September 23 and 24

The English Rapidplay Championship is coming to Liverpool next month and players have the chance to win £10,000.

Liverpool Chess Club will be hosting the internationally renowned tournament at the Cunard Building.

The prize fund for the two-day event, which takes places on Saturday and Sunday, September 23 and 24, makes it the most lucrative in the UK chess calendar.

Liverpool’s Signature Living Group, which is sponsoring the tournament, has donated the cash prize.

The championship comprises nine rounds and players can enter four levels – Open, Major, Intermediate and Standard.

The Rapidplay will be the first major event held in the waterfront building.

Signature Living founder Lawrence Kenwright, said: “It is a real coup that the Rapidplay will be taking place in the Cunard Building.

“The event is going to bring hundreds of people to the city and will showcase this great building.”
