Hungarian airline Wizz Air is adding its 13th route from Liverpool with flights to one of the world’s most popular capital cities starting in July. Tony McDonough reports

Wizz Air is to start flights to Rome from Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA), the second new route to a European capital announced this month.

Last week, Ryanair revealed its fifth new route out of Liverpool in six months, announcing a new service to the Swedish capital Stockholm for the next winter season. Now Hungarian carrier Wizz Air says it will start flying to Rome on July 1.

Its three-times-a-week service, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, will be the first route between Liverpool and the Italian capital for two years. It adds to Wizz Air’s growing network by becoming their 13th route from LJLA.

Paul Winfield, Liverpool John Lennon Airport’s Director of Aviation Development commented, “The region’s travellers have been largely grounded for most of the past 14 months.

“But we believe that the demand for international travel remains strong, which is why we have continued to work closely with our airline partners to offer passengers from across the region a great choice of destinations to choose from over the coming weeks and months, once international travel restrictions are lifted next week.

“We are delighted to see Wizz Air continue to develop their business from Liverpool, creating more opportunities for passengers from across the North West and North Wales to travel to a growing number of European destinations direct from Liverpool.”
