Liverpool accountancy firm MHA More and Smalley is to be the new audit partner of local charity Nugent.

140-year-old Nugent educates, cares for, and protects children, adults and families facing adversity across Merseyside through care homes, schools and community work. It employs more than 450 staff and is supported by around 200 volunteers.

MHA Moore and Smalley secured the audit contract following a competitive pitch. It will work with Nugent to provide audit and compliance services to the organisation and its board of trustees.

Nugent’s client team will be led by Andrew Matthews, partner at the firm. He said: “We are proud to be acting for such a well-established and respected charity. MHA Moore and Smalley has always had a strong specialism in the not-for-profit sector and this appointment further endorses our expertise in audit work for the sector.

“We believe this is also a real indicator of our ability to compete alongside some of the biggest names in the accounting and auditing profession.”

MHA Moore and Smalley’s Liverpool office is based at 20 Chapel Street in the city centre. The firm recently began a new three-year growth strategy which will see the creation of dozens of jobs across its eight UK offices.

Adrian Bloor, chief financial officer at Nugent, said: “As well as ensuring we provide the highest levels of service and care to our beneficiaries and stakeholders, we must also demonstrate outstanding governance and financial accountability.

“We were impressed by MHA Moore and Smalley’s expertise in the charity and non-profit sector and were convinced they are the right partner to oversee our financial reporting requirements.”
