Train operator Merseyrail to run normal services from Monday as RMT union suspends national strike action. Tony McDonough reports

Merseyrail trains will run as normal on Monday and Wednesday this week after the RMT union suspended planned strike action for both days.

On October 31, Merseyrail announced it was to run limited services on Monday, November 7, Wednesday, November 9. Network Rail staff, who oversee signalling and maintenance on the network, were due to take part in national walkouts.

However, on Friday the RMT announced it was suspending the walkouts with rail bosses agreeing to further talks. 

In a statement Merseyrail said: “Following the announcement on Friday of the suspension of national industrial action by Network Rail staff, Merseyrail has been able to restore a full, normal timetable on all parts of the network for Monday and Wednesday.

“In addition, the later start to services planned for Tuesday, and Thursday will also now not take place, with a full, normal timetable operating.

“There will however be some disruption for customers using St Michaels station on the Hunts Cross line. This will be partially closed on November 8 and 9 for the planned replacement of station flooring.

“Customers intending to travel via St Michaels on either date are advised to visit our website or social media channels before they travel for full information.

“Passengers using the Merseyrail network to connect with trains run by other operators are strongly advised to check before they travel. Many operators are offering a limited-service next week.
