A merry month of May ahead at the Epstein theatre
A real treat for your ears, don’t miss The Sons of Pitches who will bring their soaring solos, impeccable harmonies and sensational beatboxing to the Epstein Theatre on Friday, 13th May. This multi award-winning British vocal harmony group was crowned winner of the BBC 2 TV series The Naked Choir in October 2015. With nearly two million YouTube hits and a growing international reputation, The Sons, as they are affectionately nicknamed, have “given acappella a kick up the backside” (ThreeWeeks) and have captivated audiences with their highly creative vocal gymnastics and a programme of inventive pop covers, original numbers and entertaining improvised songs.
Hot on the heels of The Gruffalo’s monstrous success, The Gruffalo’s Child comes to the Epstein Theatre from Tuesday, 17th to Thursday, 19th May. Based on Children’s Laureate Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s award-winning picture book, Tall Stories’ stage adaptation has been described as “fun, daft and a little scary” (Time Out) and “everything good children’s theatre should be” (The List). One wild and windy night, the Gruffalo’s child ignores her father’s warning and tiptoes out into the snow. After all, the Big Bad Mouse doesn’t really exist… does he? Just how brave is the Gruffalo’s Child? Bring your little monsters to find out…! (Recommended for children over the age of three).
It’s been a Long and Winding Road for The Mersey Beatles, who will bring a taste of Beatlemania back to Liverpool on Friday, 20th May and Friday, 27th May. After tours of Europe and America, The Mersey Beatles can’t wait to bring their All Era concert home to the Epstein Theatre. The Mersey Beatles – All Era Concert features all your favourites by the Fab Four from Love Me Do to Let It Be, (via a trip to Pepperland and Abbey Road). So get ready to Twist and Shout and Come Together for a fabulous night of non-stop Beatles hits!
David Bowie fans can pay homage to their hero and enjoy his genius once more as Ultimate Bowie comes to the Epstein Theatre on Saturday, 21st May. Ed Blaney’s Ultimate Bowie – The Ziggy Stardust Tour pays tribute to the work of this global super-star, in a show that is visually stunning and vocally impressive. Ed Blaney takes the spotlight and leads an eight-piece band that takes you through David Bowie’s remarkable career from early years, such as Starman, to Let’s Dance, China Girl and many more.
And lastly, the Epstein Theatre has another great show to keep little ones entertained from Tuesday, 31st May to Wednesday, June 1st. The People’s Theatre Company will present the world premiere of its mesmerising new musical Don’t Dribble on the Dragon. Brought to you by the creators of hit shows Santa in Love and How the Koala Learnt to Hug, the show is based on the fabulous new book by Steven Lee and features magic designed by the much loved and much missed Paul Daniels. This spectacular musical adventure is all about growing up and the importance of family and is the perfect feel good show for big hearted adults and loving little ones alike. As an extra treat, Steven will be available to sign copies of the book which you can bring with you or buy in the theatre after the show.
