Live events technical specialist Adlib has secured a King’s Award for International Trade as its annual revenues continue to rise.

Prescot-based Adlib, which provides sound, lighting and audiovisual expertise for live events in the UK and overseas, is one of 197 organisations to be recognised with a King’s Award for Enterprise.

This recognises the firm’s international reputation and commercial success in delivering projects outside the UK.

Founded in 1984, Adlib also operates from Glasgow and London. It employs more than 220 people. It has collaborated with artists such as Sam Fender, Jason Derulo, and Hozier.

Between 2022 and 2024, Adlib’s overseas turnover saw significant growth, supported by its position within the international touring market. Its strong relationships with its North American client base ensures it is relied on for European, and global events.

In its most recent accounts for the 12 months to April 30, 2024, posted on Companies House, Adlib saw revenues rise almost 10% to £26.4m. Pre-tax profits fell from £2.4m to £1.4m due to inflation, higher wages and increased overheads.

However, managing director John Hughes said the company had shown “resilience” in the face of rising costs. During the accounting period Adlib invested £7.2m in new equipment. The accounts also showed dividends of £60,000 were paid.

In February 2024 John led a management buyout of the business, acquiring it from previous owner and founder Andrew Dockerty, who remains a director of Adlib.

Speaking about the King’s Award, John said: “Over the past few years, we have experienced considerable growth while working with some of the industry’s largest tours, productions, and live venues.

“We have evolved into a 220+ person, multi-disciplined organisation with a global reputation, offering audio, lighting, and video services at the highest level.

“This award acknowledges our exceptional team of talented individuals who have helped deliver some of the most impressive shows on the international stage.”
