Affordable housing provider Cobalt Housing secures £10m of funding to build 70 social rent homes in north Liverpool. Tony McDonough reports
Cobalt Housing has secured funding from Homes England and Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to build 70 social rent homes in north Liverpool.
Homes England will contribute £8.4m to the project, on Croxteth’s Stonedale Estate, with the remaining £1.6m coming from the Combined Authority’s Brownfield Land Fund. As well as the homes the cash will fund wider environmental improvements.
More than £20m has already been invested into Stonedale by Cobalt with 145 affordable new homes delivered so far as well as public realm work and estate improvements.
Louise Davies, executive director of communities and regeneration at Cobalt, said: “This is a major milestone for Cobalt. The support from Homes England and the Combined Authority will help us deliver on our ambition to build 1,000 new homes.
“Our investment in Croxteth is about more than bricks and mortar. It’s about creating vibrant, sustainable communities. These new homes will help reduce waiting lists, offer real choice for local families and drive long-term improvements to the area.”
New homes built as part of the scheme will include a mix of family houses, one-bedroom apartments and bungalows. Work on site has started and is expected to complete in August 2027, with construction carried out by Lovell Partnerships.

Tahreen Shad, partnerships director for Lovell in the North West, added: “Following our successful collaboration on the Waterdale Gardens development in Croxteth in 2024 – bringing 88 family homes to the area and regenerating a redundant cinema car park – we are proud to be continuing our work with Cobalt Housing.
“Our team is committed to pushing the drive for more high-quality and affordable housing options that will ensure more local people have a home to call their own, and through thoughtful placemaking, we aim to deliver a development where people are proud to live.”
