MD Productions Ltd presents A Book of Tales at The Epstein Theatre on Sunday, June 12.
Based on an original idea by well-known local choreographer, Miguel Doforo, who has appeared on Britain’s Got Talent with his dance troupe on numerous occasions, A Book of Tales was penned by Liverpool writer and actress Cheryl Mackie and will be brought alive from page to stage by the talented young performers at MD Productions, who will take audiences on a mysterious adventure.
Miguel, creative director of MD Productions Ltd, explained:
“A Book of Tales is a heart-warming story about a little girl with a vivid imagination, who embarks on a journey full of twists and turns to keep her family memories alive.”
Writer Cheryl Mackie revealed:
“At the heart of the story is Isobel Miller, a six-year-old girl whose imagination is always hungry for mystical and magical creatures. Her mother encouraged her love for stories, faraway lands by reading to her and writing in a special book. This book of tales and the fantastical characters within its pages were created by Isobel’s mother to guide her daughter and encourage her throughout her childhood.”
The audience will get to meet characters from the fantastical forest including Skap, a cheeky forest nymph, plus ‘Mae’ and ‘Stro’ who have the magical ability to conduct sound wherever they go but like any dynamic duo they can be competitive but when they work in harmony their music can be sensational!
All the pages were created with a mother’s unconditional love but somewhere, somehow, the characters come to life and for Isobel the line between fantasy and reality can become blurred. After the tragic death of her mother, A Book of Tales becomes even more precious to Isobel than ever as she finds comfort within the pages and her imagination.
Find out how her feelings impact on A Book of Tales and her magical world becomes a sinister place… will Isobel be able to turn the page and create her own happy ending?
MD Productions are well known for their amazing dance performances, but they are now venturing into drama, working closely with actress Cheryl, who has appeared on Brookside and Sky One’s Dream Team.
Cheryl now works for Ariel Trust, writing scripts for animations that are part of educational resources, used in schools across Merseyside.
She said:
“Working with MD has been a refreshing experience, they are collaborative and encouraging to both staff and young people. When Miguel asked me to build a script around his original idea, I jumped at the opportunity. I’ve never worked in this way before but he wanted me to create a script that showcased the talent within the company.
“Drama is a new addition to MD but the young people have been enthusiastic and are improving every week. I get a kick out of seeing the most introverted kids coming alive on stage. Obviously the end product has to be right but it’s the progression and journey of some of these kids that gives me complete satisfaction.”
Theatre manager, Rebekah Pichilingi, added:
“We are very excited to welcome Miguel and his talented crew to the Epstein Theatre. The Book of Tales takes you on an enchanting and emotional journey which really lifts the spirits and will appeal to people of all ages!”
