RedWigWam’s online platform matches employers with people seeking short-term, flexible work with around 95,000 people and more than 2,000 employers already registered. Tony McDonough reports
Liverpool recruitment firm RedWigWam claims to be the first in the UK to pay its army of thousands of temporary workers within 24 hours.
Its online platform matches employers with people seeking short-term, flexible work. So far, around 95,000 people aged between 16 and 90 and more than 2,000 employers, have registered with RedWigWam.
Companies to have used the platform include Tesco, Co-op, Morrisons, Deliveroo, Carlsberg, Papa Johns and The Collective. The business is on course to achieve a turnover of around £2.5m this year and is targeting revenues of £80m within five years.
Great work
Entrepreneur Lorna Davidson, founder and chief executive of RedWigWam, said: “We are looking for people who want to do great work and, in return, we will reward them straight away for doing a great job.
“We ask people to tell us when they register whether they would prefer to be paid daily, weekly or monthly. Over 80% have chosen to be paid within 24 hours. The feedback we have had has been fantastic.
“It also helps combat the issue of people considering taking out payday loans and other forms of lending – to tide them over between monthly pay days – which can be hugely expensive in terms of interest.
“We believe we are the first company in the UK to give its workers the opportunity to be paid for their work within 24 hours.”
Previous business
Lorna built and sold a previous business – field marketing agency Tactical Solutions – for more than £15m in 2011. The idea for RedWigWam was borne out of the frustration she experienced while running Tactical Solutions when she found it difficult to find good temporary staff.
RedWigWam uses algorithms to connect within minutes workers with employers’ short-term or ad-hoc opportunities. The company, established in 2016, now employs 16 people in its Liverpool head office. More than 1.4m hours of work have been carried out by WigWammers since the company launched.
Employers can post a job for free, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The roles are then matched to fully-vetted workers who have the correct skills and time to take them on.
