Hospitality entrepreneurs Steven Burgess and Josh Moore are expanding their successful Liverpool bar brand BoBo into Wirral.

In 2020 the duo defied the headwinds of the pandemic to open BoBo, an Iberian-themed wine bar, tasca and charcuterie in Castle Street in the city centre. It was named as Best Bar in the City Region at the Merseyside Independent Business Awards in 2022.

Now Steven and Josh will open their new BoBo outlet in West Kirby on Thursday, August 17. It will be located on the corner of Banks Road and Salisbury Avenue.

Similar to the Liverpool venue, it will focus on the flavours of Portugal and Spain offering charcoal grills – churasqueiras – alongside sides and sharing plates inspired by other traditional Portuguese and Spanish cuisine.

Both former AA rosette chefs, Steven and Josh have extensive experience in hospitality. Together they set up and operated Lucky Penny Group, a hospitality consultancy.

Its clients include Guinness, Bentley, Google, BBC, Nike, Premier league football clubs, Virgin and Chevrolet.

They have also opened venues across the region such as Camp & Furnace and Love Lane Brewery and most recently leveltap in Liverpool ONE.

And were responsible for delivering the high-end dining at the acclaimed Festival No.6 in Portmeirion, North Wales for six years.

Steven said: “With BoBo in Liverpool we wanted to stand out from the crowd and be different and that’s what we are aiming for in West Kirby.

“BoBo in Liverpool has won a reputation for being fun and laid back but with a premium on the experience of everyone who walks through the door and delivering great service for our guests.

“West Kirby will also have those elements as well as a menu that reflects our passion for Iberian cuisine, where food is akin to religion.”

BoBo’s charcoal chicken celebrates authentic Algarvian cooking techniques, flavour, and experience using a traditional Frango Piri-Piri from its origin in Guia, Albufeira.

The restaurant’s all-day menus will comprise popular favourites such as spins on brunch, lazy lunch plates and sharing dishes.

Josh added: “For us, authenticity is everything and we are trying to do something totally different with our food and to push and challenge and bring others on that journey.

“We will be working with local food and wine suppliers wherever possible, but many of the menus’ elements will be sourced from Spain and Portugal.”
