Bake Off comes to Burscough for financial firm Acumen

A financial firm in Burscough recently set its staff a charity ‘Bake Off’ challenge, complete with judging by award-winning local bakers.

The multi-talented team at Acumen Financial Partnership swapped calculators for kitchen scales as they prepared delicious cakes to help raise money for children’s charity Jeans for Genes.

Stepping in for Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood for this Great Burscough Bake Off were the staff from Merlin Bakery Café whose bread has won a world baking award.

Acumen’s managing director, Angela Maher, said:

“The cakes were judged anonymously and, after much deliberation, the Burscough Bake Off title was awarded to our director, Jon Landy, with his rather impressive Victoria sponge cake.

“It was great fun and we raised £140 for a very worthy children’s charity.”

The West Lancashire independent financial advisers have been busy fundraising this autumn, supporting accounts manager Cathy Holme and family who took part in the Claire House Splash Dash in Liverpool and also raising hundreds of pounds for the Mayor’s Charity Appeal in West Lancashire.

Acumen also donated a guitar from Harmonics Music for auction to raise funds for four local charities supported by West Lancashire Mayor, Cllr Liz Savage: Ormskirk Hospital’s Neo Natal Unit; The Birchwood Centre, Skelmersdale; The Artz Centre in Birch Green and The Civic in Ormskirk.
