BBC Radio Merseyside’s Big History show and exhibition returns
Want to learn more about your city’s fascinating heritage? Then don’t miss The BBC Radio Merseyside Big History Show & Exhibition 2016 coming to Liverpool’s St George’s Hall next month.
The magnificent Grade I listed building will be hosting the two-day event on Saturday, April 9 and Sunday, April 10. And this year’s show promises to be even bigger and more exciting than ever with the chance to meet some Vikingsand witness Medieval Battle Re-enactments!
The Big History Show & Exhibition will feature exhibitors and guest speakers from all over Merseyside which will be announced by The Liverpool Town Crier who will attend the event accompanied by his Lady Wife.
There will be exhibition stands from over 50 local history and heritage organisations from the Mersey Tunnels Toursand Mersey Ferries to Fort Perch Rock, the Vikings and Runcorn Locks Preservation Society, plus dozens of local history, and family history organisations.
There will also be a packed programme of over 16 talks across the weekend running every 30 mins, with local historians giving fascinating lectures on: The Beatles, The Overhead railway, Merseyside Theatres, Wirral Smugglersand much more – see the full programme below.
Don’t miss the special Local History Question Time Panel Event, where members of the public and pose their local history queries to a panel of expert local historians including Ken Pye, MD of Discover Liverpool, historian, author, and broadcaster; Janet Dugdale, director of The Museum of Liverpool; Ken Rogers, journalist and historical columnist; and Steve Binns MBE, Liverpool Community Historian.
Special guided tours of St George’s Hall will also be available so you can explore the unique neo-classical building with its Great Hall, Concert Room, Courts and Catacombs.
And after all that exploring, you can relax and enjoy some well-earned refreshments in the Heritage Café, which will be serving delicious cakes and treats and afternoon tea.

Entry to the event, which takes place from 10am – 5pm on the Saturday and Sunday, is free of charge. Guest lectures, talks and tours are just £2, payable on the day.
