The Brink gets creative with new events programme

Located on Parr Street, the award-winning dry bar and café has added a range of new weekly activities to its calendar in a bid to aid recovery and offer initiatives to participants.

The Brink has unveiled a new events schedule, devised with wellbeing in mind.

The eclectic weekly programme has introduced Garden Club, Singing for the Soul, Morning Meditation, Yoga and Meditative Doodling.

General Manager of The Brink Carl Bell said: “Here at The Brink, our focus is on recovery and wellbeing for both the recovery community and the general public alike. Since our opening, our calendar of varied events has proved not only popular, but certainly beneficial so we wanted to create new concepts for 2017 that will continue to creatively nourish all those who visit us.

“It will encourage attendees to learn about nature and how to grow their own vegetables, fruits and flowers with aims to bring together a community that can share ideas, skills and crafts each week. We will also host Singing for the Soul, in which our attendees can express themselves through song with all abilities welcome.”

On Fridays, Morning Meditation will take place at 9am and later in the day, guests can enjoy traditional Yoga, with aims to cultivate calmness and improve wellbeing through graceful stretching to work the mind and body.

Kim Eaton, resident art tutor at The Brink said: “To complement The Brink’s existing and eclectic programme, I will also be hosting a weekly Meditative Doodling session. For those who are in recovery and the general public, it can be increasingly difficult to switch off and quieten the mind, which is where artistic activities such as doodling can certainly help.

“Not only do the informal classes help each participant to relax and enjoy some therapeutic time out, at the end of each session, all attendees will have created their own unique artwork to take home with them too.”

The Brink’s trophy-winning ‘Boys From The Brink’ football team training also takes place every Saturday, which incorporates 11-a-side games and tournaments and plays against other recovery related organisations.

Garden Club will take place on Wednesdays between 10:00am – 12:00pm. Meditative Doodling will take place on Wednesdays between 2:30pm – 4:00pm. Singing for the Soul will take place on Thursdays between 5:30pm – 6:30pm. Morning Meditation will take place on Fridays between 9:00am – 10:00am. Yoga will take place on Fridays between 3:00pm – 4:00pm, whereby there will be no set fee but donations are welcomed. Football team training takes place every Saturday between 11am – 12pm at The Pitz.
