City of Liverpool College launch Visitor Economy Week
The City of Liverpool College, working with key city partners, is leading a new “Visitor Economy Week”, showcasing the career opportunities for young people.
Visitor Economy Week will run from the 8th to the 11th February and aims to promote the opportunities available in the sector and enhance the perception of the visitor economy as a progressive career choice.
The visitor economy is rapidly expanding in the City Region; it currently supports over 49,000 jobs in Liverpool but this is projected to increase to 55,000 jobs by 2020.
The College will be working with key partners including the Local Enterprise Partnership’s visitor economy development team and further education colleges and skill providers across the City Region, running a series of 50 events throughout “Visitor Economy” week.
There will be a range of events to choose from, themed around key professions in the visitor economy such as hospitality, catering and tourism. Activities will be fun and informative with “Macaroon Making” at The City of Liverpool College, in association with Renshaws, “Building and Baking” with Bako, at Riverside College, a “Day in The Life of a Zoo Keeper” with Knowsley Safari Park and “The Golf Coast” with Hugh Baird College.
Elaine Bowker, Principal of The City of Liverpool College said:
“With a projected 55,000 new jobs being created by visitor economy over the next four years, it’s vital that we ensure young people in the City Region benefit from the opportunities on offer. Not only this, we need to ensure we have the skills locally to support the continued growth of this vital sector.
“Visitor Economy Week will showcase the variety of opportunities and the diverse skills associated with the sector. The events on offer will provide a taste of what life can be like working in professions such as hospitality, retail, tourism and catering. Activities will be fun, informative and interactive, giving the next generation the chance to see what careers in the sector are all about.”
The launch of Visitor Economy Week takes place on Monday 8th February, 3-5pm, at the City’s prestigious Princes Dock.
