Clean sweep for Ropewalks
Residents and businesses in the Ropewalks area of Liverpool City Centre are making their neighbourhood cleaner and brighter.
Ropewalks Residents’ Association and local businesses have organised a community clean-up on Saturday 25 June when, supported by Liverpool City Council, volunteers will be picking up litter from around the Ropewalks– including Bold, Fleet, Wood, Seel and Berry Streets.
Peter Schriewersmann, Chair of the Ropewalks Residents’ Association said:
“The Ropewalks has become a distinct place with a unique culture and vibe and a fantastic network made up of active residents, businesses and council officers. Together, we want to send a signal and also tackle the litter and recycling issues in this amazing part of the Liverpool city centre.”
The city council is supplying equipment, protective clothing and advice for the clean-up.
Local Councillor Hetty Wood said:
“This is the third year that we have worked with and supported the residents and businesses to hold community clean-ups. It is great to see people coming together to help keep the neighbourhood litter-free, clean and tidy and encourages a real pride about the area.”
Ryan Cullen, communications manager for the Iliad Group, said:
“We have been actively involved in the historic Ropewalks since the mid-1990s and are proud to have played a significant role in its phenomenal resurgence.
“With the ever-increasing footfall and numbers of residents now living in this eclectic district it’s fantastic to see passionate, empowered members of our community collaborating with local businesses such as ourselves in ensuring the Ropewalks’ famous streets are kept clean and tidy for all to enjoy.”
