‘Coffee for a coat’ initiative launches

LIVERPOOL’S Paper Cup Project launches their “coffee for a coat” initiative with the help of Liverpool coffee shop company, Bean on Monday 31st October. The initiative which runs until November 4th (5th November in their Princes Dock branch) is hoping to be able to provide warm clothing to Liverpool’s homeless before the onset of winter. Bean will be accepting donations of coats across their stores in exchange for a free coffee.

If you would like to you can even donate your free coffee to be distributed along with the coat to one of Liverpool’s rough sleepers. Coats must be clean, warm and waterproof and can be donated at all of Bean’s stores across Liverpool, including: Brunswick Business Park, Princes Dock, Liverpool Innovation Park, Exchange Station, The Cunard Building and St Paul’s Square.

The Paper Cup Project is a Liverpool based volunteer group which offers food, hot drinks and a listening ear to those sleeping rough. By engaging with the homeless across Merseyside, the Paper Cup Project hopes to make the life of a rough sleeper just a little bit easier offering support to buy supplies like hot drinks, food, clean socks and underwear.

Michelle Langan of the Paper Cup Project said:

“The rough sleepers on the streets of Liverpool tell us that they sometimes feel invisible. We hope to change that, by engaging with them and offering our support. As the temperatures start to plummet we hope that coffee for a coat will provide some small relief to the homeless across Merseyside. The more coats we can collect the more people we can help. I have faith that Liverpool will rise to the challenge in supporting those less fortunate.”

Jon Whyte of Bean coffee shop added:

“I’m so glad for our customers to have the opportunity to help someone less fortunate to keep warmer this winter.  The paper cup project along with other street care teams do an amazing job and we’re committed to helping them in their efforts now and in the future.”
