Emerald Life announces British LGBT Awards partnership

The UK’s first full-service LGBT insurance provider, Emerald Life, has today announced its sponsorship of the 2016 British LGBT Awards

Emerald Life, which provides insurance products designed and tailored for the gay and lesbian community, launched on 30 March 2016. The company is partnering with the Awards as part of its commitment to the LGBT community – LGBT support being one of the core reasons why this ground-breaking insurance business was established.

The British LGBT Awards, which take place on 13 May at London’s Grand Connaught Rooms, is Britain’s highest profile gay awards event which recognises those people and organisations voted for by the public and a high-profile judging panel. A string of gay celebrities and straight allies will be in attendance on the night which sees award nominations for stars including Caitlyn Jenner and Great British Bake Off presenter, Sue Perkins. Also among the nominees is Liverpool’s own, TV presenter Paul O’Grady.

Emerald Life provides an array of insurance products from home, term-life, wedding and pet cover, with travel insurance to follow shortly, to offer LGBT people a compelling alternative to the generic ‘one size fits all’ cover from other insurance providers.

Chairman of Emerald Life, Steve Wardlaw, who was shortlisted for a British LGBT Award last year, is part of the judging panel that will decide the winners of the corporate categories.

Commenting on the partnership, he said:

“I am delighted that Emerald Life has teamed up with the British LGBT Awards. It’s important for the LGBT community to be visible and to celebrate those people who are building on the shoulders of the giants that went before us, fighting for equality. The Awards allow the community to show its appreciation for those in business, the arts and the non-profit sector, whether straight or gay, who are working for equality every day. There are some fantastic names on the shortlist and I’m looking forward to working with my fellow judges on deciding the winners.”

British LGBT Awards founder, Sarah Garrett, added:

“Having an emerging and exciting company such as Emerald Life sponsoring our awards is fantastic. There is a real need for a specialist insurance firm to cater for the needs of the LGBT community across the country. Steve Wardlaw is an inspirational individual and we really value his input.”
