An evening to savour at Liverpool’s Art School

There’s something quite special happening at Liverpool’s The Art School restaurant tonight. Award-winning Champagne House, Charles Heidsieck, team up with award-winning chef Paul Askew to continue their ‘Maverick Encounters’ event series for 2017/18.

The Maverick Encounters aims to celebrate modern-day ‘mavericks’; individuals who push boundaries, go against the grain and thrive in the face of adversity – all characteristics that mirror the House’s legendary founder, Charles Camille-Heidsieck.

Charles Heidsieck was renowned for his adventurous flair and entrepreneurial spirit. Traits that saw a phenomenal rise to success in America in 1852, when he became the first champagne merchant to truly conquer the market.

A flamboyant character, ‘Champagne Charlie, as he was known, became famed for his memorable parties.

But what he was really known for was his ability to create a truly unique champagne of character, to pioneer new territories, and challenge conventions. He was a maverick of his time, and that pioneering ethos remains at the very heart of Champagne Charles Heidsieck today.

Earlier this year, Charles Heidsieck announced a series of events, partnering with similarly pioneering people – individuals they believe to embody those same enterprising same qualities, in order to celebrate modern-day innovators of food, craft, fashion and art.

Executive director Stephen Leroux says: “Maverick Encounters highlights the spirit at the heart of our Champagne House. Our ethos is centered around an open mind, a quest for excellence and a willingness to share our unique ‘savoir-faire’.

“Our mavericks are people that recognize this and bring the same attitude to their own fields. Maverick Encounters was set up to try and discover entrepreneurs and talents who are already writing their own story, and perhaps without knowing it, their own legend – just as our founder did centuries ago.”

This months event brings Maverick Encounters to Liverpool, home to the highly acclaimed Art School restaurant, brainchild of Great British Menu contestant, Paul Askew.

Chef Askew has created a bespoke, 5-course menu – each course will, of course, be paired with a glass of carefully selected champagne from the Charles Heidsieck collection, with experts giving guests a champagne masterclass throughout the evening.

Paul Askew, who says he hopes to win Liverpool’s first Michelin star, will also share his journey and vision for what has become one of the regions finest and most highly-regarded establishments.

Back in London in November, the fourth encounter will take place in the shop and studio of acclaimed fashion designer, Joshua Kane. An intimate occasion with one of fashion’s most charismatic and exciting designers, who recently pulled off the most attended fashion show in London Fashion Week history at the Palladium Theatre.
