Futurist safety work still ongoing

Work is still ongoing to make safe the derelict former Futurist Cinema on Lime Street in Liverpool.

An independent structural report was ordered by a Court of Appeal judge after SAVE Britain’s Heritage objected to the council’s proposed method for making the building safe.

It had been hoped Lime Street would reopen by Thursday 9 June, but the work has not yet been completed.

A council spokesman said:

“The independent structural engineer has made some changes to the original recommendations made over the work needed to make the façade of The Futurist safe. Good progress has been made, but the road will remain closed into Thursday.

“As soon as we are able to reopen it we will let people know. In the meantime, we apologise for the inconvenience that it is causing.”
