Gran Caffè to open fourth Liverpool outlet
Liverpool Italian coffee shop brand Gran Caffè is to open a fourth outlet in the city, creating new jobs. Tony McDonough reports
Italian brothers Paolo and Donato Cillo are set to open their fourth Gran Caffè outlet in Liverpool, creating a number of new jobs.
Gran Caffè first opened in Williamson Square as part of the popular Italian Quarter over 10 years ago. In the past 12 months the brothers have expanded with new outlets in Duke Street in the city centre and Lark Lane in south Liverpool.
This latest venue will be in Jesse Hartley Way, Park Central in Liverpool Waters. Close to the waterfront. It is due to open in January 2025.
Renowned as a pasticceria – which translates to cake and pastry shop – Gran Caffè, which originally opened as P&D Deli, has been serving its Italian delicacies including its selection of croissants, pastries and donuts.
Gran Caffè is home to its signature breakfast pastries that are handcrafted in-house and baked fresh each day by its pastry team, headed up by Donato’s wife Antonietta.
It also offers a selection of brunch dishes including a full English, avocado toast and benedicts. The menu also includes Italian small and large plates for lunch, aperitivo and dinner.
Gran Caffè is renowned for its Italian coffee, pastries and award-winning, artisan gelato that’s made in-house everyday. This will be the first site where the family bakery is connected to the site.
The name translates to ‘Great Coffee’, was created by Paolo and Donato out of a love for the rich atmosphere that can be found in every Italian coffee house, transporting the strong coffee culture of the Italian homeland to the city of Liverpool.

Donato Cillo said: “Myself and Paolo are delighted to open our fourth Gran Caffè in the beautiful city of Liverpool that we’ve called home for two decades.
“Opening Gran Caffè was a chance for us to share our Italian heritage and culture with the people of Liverpool, bringing an authentic Italian experience and freshly made, delicious dishes, as well as our popular bakery and gelato.”
