GVA Liverpool trio take on skydive to help buy a prosthetic leg for colleague Laura
Laura Wakefield from Speke has had to have her left leg amputated beneath her knee following the discovery of a rare cancer in her foot earlier this year
Staff from the Liverpool office of commercial property agency GVA will take part in a skydive to raise money towards a prosthetic leg for colleague Laura Wakefield.
Laura, from Speke, has had to have her left leg amputated beneath her knee following the discovery f a rare cancer in her foot.
She discovered a lump in her foot which continued to grow. She was eventually diagnosed with an extremely rare form of cancer called sarcoma.
Due to the nature of the cancer and its rarity, the usual forms of treatment are unfortunately ineffective, meaning amputation was the only way to stop the it spreading.
The operation took place in May 2017.
She is now fundraising to buy a prosthetic leg which can cost between £8,000 and £10,000.
Now here colleagues at the St Paul’s Square office, Jennifer Mallon, Stephen Cowperthwaite and Claire Robinson, will make the parachute jump to help her towards reaching her target.
Laura, who has worked at the Liverpool GVA office since 2013, has documented her journey so far on her inspirational blog, Best Foot Forward.
The trio taking part in the skydive are hoping to make a significant contribution and over £6,000 has already been raised through generous donations, with the company also hosting a Charity Cheese and Wine night in July.
Stephen, who is regional senior director and head of GVA’s Liverpool office, said: “Laura’s love of life is truly inspirational and her positivity is infectious.
“So when Jen put herself forward to do a skydive to help raise funds, Claire and I decided that we had to sign up as well.”
