Builder HMS delivers 45 new Liverpool city region homes for its owner Torus taking the total for 2024 to 251. Tony McDonough reports
Affordable housing provider Torus has taken delivery of 45 new homes at two developments with a combined value of £6.6m.
Both developments in St Helens were built by Torus’s construction division HMS. It means HMS has now delivered 251 homes for Torus across Liverpool city region so far in 2024. Both schemes also involved Homes England and St Helens Council.
Its completion of Grange Park in Thatto Heath saw 30 homes built and £4.9m invested in completely regenerating the site following the demolition of seven apartment blocks at Springfield Road.
Railway Court has seen Torus invest a further £1.7m into completely redeveloping the former site of the Railway Inn – a well-known local landmark site – to create 15 new apartments at the heart of Earlestown.
Torus Developments’ managing director, Chris Bowen, said: “To see two sites complete and ready to welcome residents is a fantastic achievement and something I am proud to be a part of.
“Both schemes represent a commitment from Torus, Homes England and St Helens Council in not only improving access to affordable new homes and bolstering the rental market, but in listening to local communities about the type of development needed.”
Among developments now handed over by HMS to Torus so far this year are Ecclesia Park in St Helens, Station Mews in Allerton, Liverpool, Kingsway House in Warrington, Brookside Close in Prescot and a number of homes at Ferrersfield in Knowsley.
In the year to March 31, 2023, HMS reported revenues of £107.2m, up from £89m the previous year. Pre-tax profits were £3m, up from £2.3m in 2022. During this financial year HMS, which employs more than 700 people, is expecting profits to rise again to around £3.4m.

HMS construction director, John Barrow, added: “It’s fantastic to see another two schemes handed over and to be closing out the financial year on a high.
“Grange Park and Railway Court are both brilliant schemes and ones the team have worked incredibly hard to deliver to a high standard, which is clear to see in the finished products.
“It’s been a busy year for HMS, with five schemes already handed over in the first few months of 2024 alone, but for me, it’s something to be incredibly proud of as it shows just how hard we have worked to grow our new build workstream.”
