Value retailer Home Bargains is investing £7m in a new Merseyside store that will see the creation of 121 jobs.

Liverpool-based Home Bargains, one of the biggest discount retailers in the UK, will open the store in Stephenson Way in Formby on Saturday, June 26. It will actually employ 134 people in total with some staff transferring from other local stores.

It will also be donating £2,000 to local charity Compassion Acts, that works in collaboration with Southport food bank. The charity works to prevent and reduce poverty and increase social wellbeing in Southport and the surrounding communities.

The new Formby store will join more than 500 outlets across the UK serving 5m customers every weeks. Home Bargains is currently opening around 50 stores each year. The new 28,783 sq ft store in Formby formerly housed Homebase.

Graham Wallace, the new Formby store manager, said: “I started my Home Bargains journey back in 2009 at our Kirkby store and have never looked back since. However, helping to launch the new Stephenson Way store will be a huge accomplishment for both myself and my fantastic team.”

The new store will also come with its own garden centre – GardenWorld at Home Bargains. Graham added: “Stephenson Way will be a great location for us and we’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”
