How you can help Ukrainian refugees

An organisation based in Liverpool is collecting vital humanitarian supplies for Ukrainian refugees massed at the Polish border with an aid convoy leaving on Saturday  – and here is how you can help

A Liverpool organisation set up by Polish people living in the city is appealing for items that will be sent in an aid convoy to Ukranian refugees at the border with Poland.

More than 150,000 people have sought to flee Ukraine in the past few days amid a large-scale military invasion by Russian forces. A queue of refugees reportedly 25 miles long has now formed at the Polish border.

Governments and aid agencies have scrambled to provide food and shelter for the growing number of people looking to escape the conflict. On Saturday, March 5, lorries loaded with essential humanitarian supplies will leave the UK bound for the Poland-Ukraine border.

PISC, an organisation based in Wrexham, is coordinating the relief effort and supplies in Liverpool are being collected by Polskie Merseyside, a Polish organisation which has its headquarters at 254 County Road in Walton in Liverpool. Postcode is L4 5PE.

Supplies can be dropped off there but must arrive by Friday, March 4 to make the convoy. They can collect larger items – call 07736223022. You can send items purchased online to the same address before March 4. Opening times are from 10.00am till 8.30pm. The most essential items are: 

  • Colouring pencils
  • Teddies
  • Colouring books
  • School supplies 
  • Blankets
  • Emergency foil blankets
  • Soaps, shampoos, shower gels etc
  • Towels
  • Sanitary towels
  • Nappies
  • Sleeping bags
  • Toothbrushes
  • Kids’ clothes (new or like new condition)
  • Cups (stainless steel)
  • First aid kits, plasters, bandages etc
