Junior French Open champion joins Liverpool Hope International line up
The Liverpool International Tennis Tournament’s remarkable knack for unearthing stars before they make it big has continued with their unveiling of junior French Open champion Andrey Rublev, who became the first Russian to win the junior title at Roland Garros since 1966 at the tender age of 16.
The Russian star has been confirmed for the line up to appear at Liverpool Cricket Club over the next few weeks.
Tournament organiser Anders Borg believes Rublev will be the next breakout star in world tennis and said:
“We have quite a knack of identifying young players with the ability to become world-beaters and inviting them to compete in Liverpool.
“In previous years tennis fans have taken home fantastic memories of witnessing world-class players just before they explode.
“I firmly believe Rublev is the next one of these breakout stars.
“Fans will see what I mean for themselves when they come to the tournament, which begins on Thursday, June 19 and runs until Sunday, June 22.
“Very soon everyone will be talking about Rublev, this is your opportunity to say you were there when he made the transition from junior star to the senior ranks.”
The tournament, sponsored by Liverpool City Council and Liverpool Hope University, is currently in its 13th year and you can find more information about it at www.liverpooltennis.co.uk
