Liverpool cancer charity launches 30th anniversary appeal

Liverpool cancer charity Sunflowers has launched its 30th Anniversary Appeal – aiming to raise £30,000 help fund its vital services. It is calling upon Liverpool residents to make donations large and small to help support.

Donations can be made via: http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/sunflowers-30th-anniversary-appeal/

Over the past 30 years, Sunflower’s dedicated team of staff and volunteers have helped literally thousands of local people cope with a diagnosis of cancer. With around 15,000 people being treated for cancer at any one time in Liverpool, and at least twice that amount of people recovering from treatment, we believe our service is vital.

Sunflowers is an independent charity which provides support to local cancer patients, survivors and carers. We have a busy weekly schedule which includes counselling, complementary therapies, art & craft classes, exercise classes, support groups and lots more. Our services are free (or highly subsidised) and are available to anyone living with or beyond cancer, in Merseyside.

Discussing the appeal, Emma Squibb, Project Manager at Sunflowers said:

“Sunflowers offers great support services for anyone in Liverpool who is coping with cancer. As well as our busy weekly schedule of classes, complementary therapies and counselling, we run courses such as nutrition and mindfulness, we have five regular monthly support groups and our new Life Beyond Cancer Day Retreat for patients, survivors and carers. We’re also starting to offer services at venues in North Liverpool so we can help even more local people living with cancer.

“We’re launching this campaign to help us ensure we can continue to help local people long into the future. Unfortunately, cancer incidence rates are still higher in Liverpool than almost anywhere else in the UK and we believe everyone in Liverpool has a stake in our service. We hope you don’t need to use us, but we’re here if you do. Please give what you can to help us continue our work long into the future.”
