Liverpool digital agency Connect partners with NHS Education for Scotland on new dementia app

The mobile app will serve as an educational resource designed to improve staff knowledge surrounding dementia and cognitive rehabilitation.

Connect, Liverpool’s award-winning digital agency, has partnered with NHS Education for Scotland (NES) on a new resource app for health and social care staff in Scotland.

Development will be led by the NES Psychology of Dementia work stream, which sits within the NES Psychology Directorate.

Connect was awarded the project via the Scottish Government’s Application Design and Development Services (ADDS) framework, where they are one of just 20 suppliers.

The bespoke app will guide staff through the different types of dementia whilst breaking down cognitive domains.

The resource will provide information on cognitive impairments, and how these may impact on a person’s general level of function, and provide guidance on cognitive rehabilitation strategies.

The app will also include a built-in monitoring system, usage reports and links to other resources.

By developing the resource as a mobile app, it can be used on-the-go by front-line staff working with people with a dementia diagnosis.

The app will allow clinicians to access and update important information, thereby safeguarding data and improving accessibility and equity of care.

Work on the app will commence in February 2017, with a launch expected in the spring.
