Liverpool student housing provider Accommod8 is to adopt a gas safety technology system developed by a fast-growing Merseyside digital firm Gas Tag.

Gas Tag, based in 4 St Paul’s Square in Liverpool city centre, is being rolled out to thousands of homes across the UK. It sees an electronic tag is placed in each property and tracks that all gas appliances and gas work is carried out by registered engineers.

Annual gas safety checks are a legal requirement for all landlords. However, keeping track of the paper trail for annual gas certificates, replacement boilers and new appliances for many homes presents a major challenge for landlords.

By installing the Gas Tag technology, these life-saving checks will be captured using an app on a smartphone – allowing the work to be monitored in real time.

Each engineer is able to evidence their competency and their completed job gets uploaded to a centralised portal where the data can be monitored. Illegal gas fitters are unable to access the Gas Tag app and are not able to carry out any work through the portal.

John Blythe, director at Accommod8 said: “Tenant safety is our top priority. By installing Gas Tag in our homes, we want students and their families to rest assured that our homes are some of the safest in the city thanks to this technology.”

Stephen Ullathorne, co-founder and chief executive of Gas Tag, said: “We are excited to be working with such a forward-thinking company as Accommod8 that clearly puts tenant safety at the heart of what they do.”
